70,368,744,169,637.99 PB

70368744169637_99_pb_2

I have to say, i've never seen PB before... I actually had to look up what it was...

So in computer jargon, the following units are used:
Unit Equivalent
1 kilobyte (KB)1,024 bytes
1 megabyte (MB)1,048,576 bytes
1 gigabyte (GB)1,073,741,824 bytes
1 terabyte (TB)1,099,511,627,776 bytes
1 petabyte (PB)1,125,899,906,842,624 bytes

There you have it - PB is HUGE! And we have a rather large file in our system...

Tim Thomas exercises his right as a FREE INDIVIDUAL...

Fabforum

Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas, who refused to go to the White House when the Stanley Cup champions were honored there Monday, explained his reasoning on his Facebook page.

In what he says will be his only comment on the matter, Thomas wrote:

I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.

This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.

Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.

This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT

Here's a thought: At the next Republican debate, let Thomas moderate. He's a goalie, so nothing should get by him.

I have a new found respect and admiration for Tim Thomas. Besides the fact his name includes both mine and my brother's, the guy has morals and character. I am impressed! Good for him!

Pear Budget Spreadsheet (FREE)

When PearBudget started out, it was simply a downloadable spreadsheet. It was easy to use, and it helped a lot of people get their finances in order. We created it because we needed something simple to track our income and expenses. So we made it, and we put it online, for free.

People loved it.

  • It’s been downloaded well over 100,000 times.
  • It was written up in the Wall Street Journal, in Popular Science, and in the extremely popular blogs Zen Habits, Lifehacker, and Get Rich Slowly, among others.
  • We received notes and e-mails from all over the world from people who — for the very first time in their lives — were able to understand what was happening with their budgets.

When we launched the new, web-based version of PearBudget, we knew some people would prefer the old version. This page is here for you to download the original PearBudget spreadsheet, for free. It’s still a really great tool, and it might be just what you need to start budgeting.

To download your own copy of the spreadsheet, just right-click on the box below, select “save file as”, and then save it to your computer.

And if you’d like, you can check out the new, online version of PearBudget. We crafted it to be even easier to use than the spreadsheet. You can try out the new version with a free 30-day trial.

This is a pretty good budget spreadsheet (talking about the free download) from way back - I was just going through some of my old archives and found an old copy of it - reminded me to re-check it out - thought I'd throw it out there in case someone else can benefit from a simple solution... *I think mint.com's budget section is better, but if you are one of those who don't want to put your $$ out in the cloud - this is a pretty good solution.

Shingles

Last week, I was the unfortunate person who discovered the pain of "Shingles"; as in the virus that attacks your nerve(s) and presents as huge blisters and red streaks on the affected area. That in and of itself sounds painful... leave it to me to get it ON MY FACE! Now, a week later, I'm still dealing with the after-effects of the skin irritation (not to mention the look - everyone who sees me asks with a horrified face "WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?!") and the pain - I call it nerve pain, because it isn't anything like regular physical pain that I've ever felt. I'm told this pain can last well after the??lesions??have healed. Glad I have medication for that part, because to be quite honest, I don't know how much I can take of that...??

You can see in the photos that it doesn't look like a whole lot of fun; while what you see is definitely painful, that is a pain I can handle, or take - what really gets you is the underlying "nerve" pain - it is unbearable...

Bottom line, I wouldn't wish this on anyone - it's extremely painful and not something I want to experience again... and I'm ready for this term to be done with...

I just found this to be pretty interesting... it's a short read...

I often wonder about this myself, I wonder if it is also related to stress levels...?

App Addiction

Media_httpcachelifeha_xajbb

I have to admit, I have this problem - too many apps. I think I have like 25 photo-taking/styling/effecting apps - I use none of them regularly - I guess I should get rid of some... The way I horde apps is really making it difficult to find things - to the point now where I normally just go to the search screen and search for apps... that's silly - I'm about to employ this tactic to get rid of alot of the apps I really don't need or use on my phone...

As a side note, I'm starting to get the same way with my Mac App store apps - it's so cool, but I've gotten too many now...

SleepyTi.me

Check out this website I found at sleepyti.me

very cool, very simple, very different idea of going to sleep at a specific time (to the minute) in order to maximize your rest... I'm going to have to try this.

Resolute

again, this year - I am shying away from the idea of forgettable resolutions for the new year. Not that I don't think the start of another year is a good starting point for change... it's not that at all. I find that the whole "New Year's Resolution" tradition is really set up for failure. People go on about how they are going to change, yada, yada, yada. I always avoid the gym at work for the month of January (sometimes part of Feb) because of all the people that will be crowding in down there... but by the end of February the gym is again empty and back to its normal status.

That, in and of itself, is a testament to how people do thier "Resolutions"...??

Every day is a new start, and you can start to change yourself/life/situation every day that you wake up. I'm just sayin'... don't put so much stress on a resolution that you make or feel forced to make at the beginning of the year - make a choice to control your life each and every day...

Box.net Mounting Instructions

box%20dot%20net.png

If you're one of the many people who've taken advantage of Box.net's free gigabyte of online storage, you can make your Box.net account more accessible by mounting your gig of space on your desktop.

Uneasy Silence has a tutorial for mounting the Box.net drive on your Mac, while the Techie buzz weblog has a tutorial for mounting the drive on a Windows computer. If you're an avid Box.net user, this should make accessing and managing your online files a bit easier. Then again, if you don't use Box.net, you can get over 2 gigs of storage with Gmail Drive and a Gmail account. Thanks Keith!

keeping this so I can set up Jen/Nick's PC to this thing.
