Purpose of a blog
When I heard about it closing, my brother and I started searching for the alternatives that would provide a similar experience (basically, being a blog). I demo'd WordPress blogger, tumblr, and the roll your own types... my brother decided on WordPress . I was going to go with him on that, until we found out that you have to pay yearly just to have a domain pointing to your blog... I already pay several annual fees relating to my online stuff, so I chose not to go that route.
I love the ease of posting stuff to tumblr from my phone, pc, or email; however, since returning to it, it seems overly sluggish no matter where I access it from, different networks, cellular, lan, wifi, public, private - it all seems the same to me: slow. I've currently set my elitepixel.com address to it, but am thinking of just coming back to blogger due to the integration of google products. Plus, I can use g+ comments where on tumblr i have to set up disqus or something like that... #pain
That leads me to a question of usefulness... There are certain "blogs" that I think should exist, but I'm thinking my blog shouldn't. The only thing I really use it for is to post pictures, video's, and links that I want to share with friends and family... don't we have g+ & Facebook for that? I mean honestly, no blog I ever create is going to have a bigger or better audience than that of any social networks I use.
I think I'll add a pointer to my g+ profile page under my domain name(s) until they expire - but I don't think I'll be renewing them. I just paid for a pro account for flickr to store the original photos I take (mainly so I can backup all my photo's at their original size - flickr is the cheapest option for that at only $25/year). So I'd rather cancel my hosting and utilize other free tools to reach the people I'd like to... I just don't see a reason to keep them. Any programming/playing around I do is no longer web related, so I don't need a sandbox, playground or platform for any of it.
I honestly think this applies to just about everyone, at least when talking about individuals and blogs - things like lifehacker, makeuseof, gizmodo, etc, I think still need their blogs - but that's more of a platform than a blog and I enjoy those as more of "news" feeds... even if you like limiting your audience on your blog, you can limit and have more control over who sees your posts on both Facebook and (especially) G+.
So in the hypocritical way of self-importance and such, I wanted to post a blog post about blog posts that are really unnecessary now that we have networks that have rendered blog posts obsolete.

abortion - a thought
I usually stay away from this topic for general purpose discussions... but I heard something this morning that I've just got to post: This morning, I was listening to a podcast from my church (The Village)... matt chandler (@MattChandler74) has got to be one of my favorite pastors as far as sermons & delivery go... anyway, he had this thought in his message:
(i'm paraphrasing) If you are a pregnant lady, in your car, on the way to the abortion clinic, and someone breaks a law, runs a red light and hits your car, causing you to miscarry, that guy is charged with vehicular manslaughter for killing your baby...
HOWEVER; if you make it to the abortion clinic, and allow the doctor to hook up a vacuum pump and suck your baby out of your womb... it's called parental planning...
That's a pretty deep ponderment.... hard to come up with a suitable explanation, in my humble opinion.
